Ravens are the most common and the most intelligent bird in the interior of Alaska. Where other birds seem to just survive our winters, ravens seem to thrive. They are called tricksters by many and after watching them frolic in the wind last winter I think they are pranksters as well. Their vocalizations carry far and the variation in calls is amazing. They have a language and while I can’t speak it, you can tell by watching that it carries a great deal of information. I often see them flying from place to place, but it was this past winter that I got my best observations. Over the course of several days I watched the frolicking in the updrafts and downdrafts of a large building here in town. They seemed to be having an amazing amount of fun and I enjoyed watching them as well. Most of the images of the ravens flying against a white background were taken during the winter of 2018/2019. I’ve added photos I’ve managed to take since to this gallery as well.
