This gallery contains images of ice crystals, methane bubbles, and other ice related photos I took during 2020. This includes images from early in 2020 and late in 2020. Alaska is blessed or cursed depending on your view with a long cold winter. I’ve found that spending time outside regardless of the temperature is the best balm for the winter blues. Our winters are cold, but if you can dress for it, they are also incredibly beautiful. Because of consistent cold temperatures, ice crystals grow over the course of days and weeks. The crystals I have found are often incredible and I do not always feel that my images do them justice. My challenge as I continue to learn the art of photography is figuring out how to best capture these ice crystals. I do feel I am getting better but I also know that there is a lot of room for improvement. And unlike in many other areas of photography, there are not many people I can turn to for advice. There are very few people that I have found that are taking images like these and a large part of that is because there are very few photographers living where I do who are willing to brave our cold conditions for a photo. I think it is well worth it.
