Fairbanks is host to the World Ice Art Championships. Every winter artists from around the state and the world descend on Fairbanks to create incredible ice creations. Part of the reason this event is held in Fairbanks is because of the exceptional quality of our ice due to our consistent long and very cold winters. The competition consists of single and multi block events in which carvers or teams of carvers have a set time period in which to create art with either a single or multiple blocks of ice. Each block is about four feet by four feet by however thick the ice is, normally about three feet. These are a few of the images I’ve taken the last few years.
