Today was the first sunny day we’ve had in a while. The sun did not rise till close to 11 am and set again at just before 3 pm so although the sun came up, it never rose far above the horizon. The skies were blue, clear, and the temperature was sitting at around 10 F, about perfect.

I headed down to the river to check on the ducks today. I’d stopped by yesterday but it was so overcast none of my pictures were very good. The composition was ok, but the detail was not.

Today the sun was out and the light was good but I did have to deal with fog. The open water steams and the colder it gets the more comes off the water. Today wasn’t bad, but trying to photograph a flying bird through the fog does tend to wash out some detail. It was still a great day to be out.

After spending some time photographing the ducks I drove over by the community gardens and walked down to the river.

I again saw the fox that seems to be living in the area, but again it ran off without allowing me a good shot. This was in contrast to the fox several days ago that sat very still for me and was not concerned by my photographing it. I wouldn’t mind the skittish nature of the fox today except it’s coloration is not what I’m used to for a fox and I’ve had some debate about if it is or is not a fox.

It could be a coyote but I need a good sighting to confirm and have not yet had one. I’ve managed to see it about once a week so I am hoping for a better opportunity at some point this winter.

I spent a bit more than an hour outside on my lunch break and getting to be out in the sun at this time of year really does bring my spirits up.
